A longtime New York City resident,
Norma originally hails from
Youngstown, Ohio and received
her undergraduate degree from
the Cleveland Institute of Art in
1983. After moving to NYC, she
earned her MFA in painting from
Columbia University in 1985.
Norma works in many mediums, and the J. Lucas Gallery is excited to be showing her cut paper collages. These
pieces are delicate and meticulously detailed in their handiwork. Mixing words with images, Norma's work references
an abstract nostalgia for retro Americana. Roadside motels, drive-in movies, and apple pie are all part of her
journey. This work exudes a wonderfully quiet and quirky sensibility.
Norma’s work has been exhibited in New York City and, internationally, in Gent, Belgium and Amsterdam, the
Netherlands. She was the recipient of a New York Foundation of the Arts (NYFA) award in Drawing in 2003.
