Frank Mullaney is a
photographer and designer
living in the East Village of
Manhattan. He studied
photography at The Cooper
Union and the International
Center of Photography with,
among others, Barry Stone,
Billy Cunningham, and
Amy Arbus.
His work was seen this past year in a group show, “Sensory Preludes”, at ICP’s Education Gallery as well as in a
two-person exhibition, “Hidden Terrain”, at the new CAS Arts Center located in the Catskills. He also shows at the
Outsider Gallery in Livingston Manor, New York and has been part of a group exhibition for three seasons at the
LGBT Center in New York City.
These photographs are from an ongoing series titled "Memory Play" (an homage to Tennessee Williams). The
scenes are from old black and white movies photographed off live television, shot in soft focus and reconfigured in
camera. Because of the chance nature of what is captured at the click of the shutter, the images have the quality of
a fleeting memory or the ghostly remembrance of a forgotten dream.
